Fandom Shit
9-30-2025
Well here goes the second page of this journal entry.... so where do I begin....
Oh yes. Should we talk about.... uhhh whats's going on this week?
Huh? The fandom?
What the fuck is going on in the Denny's parking lot this time?
Well, this week has been a pretty hot week. The annoying fans(tm) are crying about their handcanon fantasies not coming true, well then...?
Of course it's 2014 Tumblr all over again
The topic of today's journal entry is Fandom Shit because why not? I want to talk about the negatives about the fandom as well as the positives, and I also wanted to talk about my fandom experience as well so here we go!
Here's a positive: Being part of the fandom is fun little place to visit to escape from the reality of it all; you get to talk about your headcanons, write/read fan fiction, create fanart, play around with your favorite characters like they're your action figures, get freaky and draw porn of your babygirl of the day and make friends with a lot of amazing people you get to connect with behind a computer or phone. Sometimes you can also enjoy the media alone, and that's also okay.
But how much fun is too much when you take fiction wayyyy too seriously?
That's where I get to the negative part of the fandom.
The fandoms these days are starting to get meaner and nastier to other people within it. There's way too much discourse of who's right and who's wrong when it came to headcanons, and also the art community plays a huge part in fandoms as well where they would bully artists over their styles (I'll save that for another time)... and oh! , here's a big one. There are people who would harrass creators of media they consume and the creator themselves specifically said that while the fan's thoughts are not canon, they still love and apprectiate the headcanons fans create.... however, some fans are still very ungrateful and so they latch out for no reason... for something that shouldn't be that deep.
I can tell that being a showrunner, or a writer of a book or comic, hell, even a performer is a hard chore because you have to deal with all the nonsense that a fandom created, and it's hard to put your foot down because you don't want to upset your dedicated fans supporting your work. One of my favorite comic book writers for Sonic had to stop taking Q&As because fans got outta control over shipping and proceed to shit on his writing and when his writing ain't even that bad (I've always blame it on SEGA for the mandates and making writers tippy toe their way of writing the pre-exisiting character to make it accurate to the game, but WHAT. EVER.)
The fandom just don't know how to critize in good faith and it's been running rampant already, even in wrestling spaces you'll see it; calling a wrestler "washed" when they have a bit of a rust they have to shake off upon their return to the ring, or when they're already putting out banger after banger, but those fans just don't give a shit and just call them "washed". They'll reply to a wrestler's post and say a bunch of mean shit to them, but it's not even in a fun way, it's more hatred than anything. Those wrestlers can read what you say about them (They're chronically online, obviously) and they will remember it.
I've spoke about this already on my instagram so iykyk....
Fandom as a whole is so cooked right now.
I understand that you're allowed to feel disapointed. I feel that way too, but headcanons not becoming real is not something to fuss about. You shouldn't latch out on creators just because you cound't get what YOU wanted, because at the end of the day, they're just headcanons. if you still don't like what they do with thier creations, then you should sit down, shut up, and create your own shit, period!
I also think that we should learn proper fandom etiquitte because oh my fucking god bro.... The amount of times I seen a bunch of fans becoming creepers, sending threats and wishing ill on creators and perfomers; I've seen it happen before in wrestling spaces. It's fine having parasocial reationships as long as it's healthy and that you learn to respect boundaries, but man I feel like people just don't know how to do that which is probably why not a lot of creators won't interact with fans a much do to said fans selfish behaviors.
It's why we can never have anything nice because people love to ruin everything.
It just shows that fans with that kind of behavior are not truely fans at all.
Anyway's here's a sketch of my Spy vs Spy OC, Pink proudly holding up a pink diamond. I want to talk about my Spies on here but that's another topic for another time :)
